Quick tips on “how to purchase” bar stools for your home counter or bar:

Stools come in Wood, with choices of Cedar, Hardwoods, Hickory, Maple, and Oak.

Correct Seat Height:
It is advised to have 10-12 inches between your bar stool seat and the top of your counter or bar.

Example #1: counter top is 36 inches from floor to top – you need a 24 or 25 inch seat height bar stool.

Example #2: bar top is 48 inches from floor to top – you will need a 36 inch tall bar stool.

Example #3: If you have a unique counter or bar height, then you will need a “custom” seat height stool. Some factories will cut the legs to accommodate the seat height that you will need, at an additional cost for cutting. i.e., If you need a 27 inch stool seat height, then you would purchase a 30” seat height and have it cut to the 27 inch size.

Swivels:
There are two types of swivel choices and the choice is a personal taste.

Regular Swivel: This type provides 360 degree turning and works on most styles of Bar Stools. It is also the only type that should be used on a backless swivel stool. It is easier for the elderly, the disabled and children to get on and off.

Memory Swivel: The memory swivel has a spring loaded mechanism that allows the stool to return to “center” when a person gets off. This type of swivel only turns approximate half way for getting on and off. It does provide a neat look at all times, without having to turn the stool (with backs) to a central point.

Backless stools:
Most commonly used for short duration sitting, these come in a variety of seat choices and in wood or metal.

Standard round seat has a smooth surface;

Saddle Dish seat has a conforming body surface for added comfort.

Round Cushion seat has a wood base with a padded cushion with choice of fabric

Stools with Backs:
Backs and seats come in several styles depending on each factory and are available in wood, metal and iron as well as the fashionable “stainless steel finish” chosen by most designers.

Most common on wood stools are the Arrow Back, Wheat Sheaf, High Spindle back, the low curved back and the low spindle back.
