My apology for the delay in updating all of you regarding the stem cell trial, life in general and life with M.S. Needless to say, with the travel and time in Mexico, returning home and finding stacks of work to catch up on, time has not permitted much more then those efforts.
The Mexico adventure was both good and bad and I will share a brief summary of that excursion. First, I drove alone from North Central Washington (70 miles from Canadian border), to Rosarito, Mexico in 3 days time. Did stop and spend one day in San Clemente and Carlsbad, California, with daughter and her family, visit with Dr. Payne, before completing the trip down.
It is a learning experience this living in another country, and it was fun, exasperating, frustrating and somewhat rewarding - all at the same time. Before leaving, I had made arrangements for a house to live in, agreed on rental amounts, period of time, and made sure that I could get phone and internet service quickly, which was all promised. Upon arriving in Rosarito, and finding the real estate office, and after initial greetings, they informed me the house was not available. Mind you now, I called the night before I left California and they said it was all set. No excuses given, just not available, and that pretty much everything in the area was now rented including rooms at local motels and hotels. We spent the entire day searching and wound up with a condo unit in downtown Rosarito for twice the price orignally agreed upon.
Entering the condo was also interesting - it was cold inside, dirty, leak in the ceiling, water not working and etc. Spent much time cleaning up both that night, all day Saturday and Sunday before heading up to Tijuana to meet my friend from Uganda. That was another experience, for they escorted my friend (native Ugandan) from the plane, and made both of us sit in the immigration office for an hour while they interrogated us. This is at midnight, so when they finally approved all things, we got the luggage, went through the opening of suitcases, double checking, and finally finding our way in the dark through Tijuana and back to Rosarito where we crashed from exhaustion.
Well, to keep this short, we never did get phone service or internet, foreign phone calls were $4 per minute, and all we heard from the phone/internet people was "manana". As we all know, 'Manana' never comes, at least in our case. We did some little sight seeing, were stopped by the police 4 times, and each time they interrogated my Ugandan friend, without cause.
My friend is back in Uganda, and I am back in Twisp, WA, back at work, getting caught up and enjoying the USA.
Plans are in motion to continue helping Uganda, and with that in mind, we have put together the makings of a FREE school, in a remote area of Uganda where people cannot afford even clothing and live naked. These people know that education is the way out of poverty, yet cannot afford the school fees. The Free school will provide a start in educating for the future, by teaching English, reading, writing, math and more. Also we hope to provide one meal a day, free clothing (second hand clothing) and provide a way for them to improve their life. This is what they want, and will do all they can to help. Of course, we also need help - financially, to see this dream become reality.
MS Focus magazine asked me to write an article, which they now printed in their spring edition of the MSFocus magazine. If you did not get a copy, here is a link to a pdf copy of it that I scanned in from the magazine:
MS Focus - Men & MS - I hope you enjoy reading it.

Benfotiamine - 1 with each meal - 3x day

and still doing my daily exercise routine that takes about 40 minutes, eating healthy foods, keeping weight down, no junk foods, no sodas, sugar and such.
As you watch the news, do research, you will also find that their is much happening today in the world of stem cells, and I believe that very soon, we will be able to share in many improvements that just a short time ago would not have been possible. Keep positive, hangeth in there, good things are coming.
Once Again, in closing, here’s a shameless plug for 2 guys who spend all their time trying to help improve the lot of others:
