Our summer never happened!! A lightening bolt started a fire just 5 miles north of where I live on July 3rd. The fire quickly grew until it consumed over 175,000 acres of timbered land. During this two and one half month period we lived in a smoke filled valley and many people moved away because of health and respiratory issues. The last 10 days of September were our first fresh air days, enjoyed thoroughly by all of us here in the Methow Valley.

Over 3,000 men fought this fire along with all of the equipment - bulldozers, fire trucks, backhoes, airplanes and helicopters and more - all with no loss of life or structures. For this we give thanks. Especially now, we give thanks for fresh, clean air and a few remaining fall days before the snow settles in for the winter months.

Plans are now being built for a late fall (end of October, November 2006) ubilical cord stem cell treatment with Dr. Fernando Ramirez in Mexico. Yes, I am continuing to do my own research, ask questions of Dr. Anthony G. Payne (medical research scientist in California), seek alternatives in healing, and keep coming back to stem cells. Much more research is being accomplished in this arena of umbilical cord blood stem cells, embryonic stem cells, cells from our own body, and with each passing day I believe we are headed for huge discoveries that will help thousands of people with various bodily malfunctions, such as M.S., parkinsons, strokes, heart, cerebral palsy and many others.

But, back to my own plans for treatment - discussions on how many stem cells to use, how to direct these cells to the location in the brain and spinal cord that will be of most benefit are an ongoing process. Probable answers being arrived at include using more then twelve million (12,000,000) of these new hUCSC's at one time, directed to the lower back area of my brain, where the most damage has occurred. As to how these will be inserted remains a question, however the most popular opinion is to use a substance that will open the blood brain barrier followed immediately by an intravenous drip of the twelve million stem cells.

Continuing the path of "guinea pig" seems the best alternative for me for without any treatments this body is totally heading the wrong direction. I really abhor the thought of having someone wiping my behind, so the "guinea pig" is certainly a better alternative for this guy. What about costs we all ask - yes, expensive, very expensive. But then on the other hand, what is the cost of having someone take care of me in the future when the body does not function and needs assistance? Which is higher? There are no easy answers to this dilemma is there?

Along with this research and planning I continue to work my Internet Store - 1shop4u.com - and the people I have come to know and love in Uganda. The water wells are being drilled and sometime in September the college of 542 students, and 3 small villages, will have clean and safe water for drinking, bathing and cooking. A huge thank you to those who have helped make this dream a reality. Since I borrowed $3,000 to make this happen quicker, I must continue to raise funds to pay off the loan, and of course, to help young people obtain an education. That is, those young people who sincerely desire and education so they can in turn help their families and communities in the future. Tuition there is not expensive, but when you have absolutely no income, it is the highest fee in the entire world. The young people in Uganda being helped now are proving themselves as intelligent people who strive hard each day to excel in their field of studies. And they are already proving their desire to help others. A family of four that we help, 3 girls and 1 boy, have proven beyond a shadow of doubt that they are not only extremely intelligent, but courteous, kind and generous beyond human words to describe. And they are helping their families and even outlying communities. The oldest has already shown her responsable side by going to another school to talk to the students and teachers. Her talk is quite amazing and she received a standing ovation by not only the students, but also the teaching staff.
